Visit Una National Park and celebrate a victory! Establishing this Bosnian National Park in May 2008, not only the spectacular Una river valley has been protected, also the Unac its major tributary gained international protection (a few days after finishing my video message Vildana Alibabic, founder of «EKUS», generously gave me an update in this regard). Hopefully still existing rumors about plans for a huge hydro-power dam come to an end once for all. Hence the tireless efforts of the environmentalists in the northwest of Bosnia were crowned with success. The Bihac based NGO «EKUS» (Ecological Coalition for Protection of Una River: www.ekus.ba) is a coalition of many similar NGO’s, aimed to protect Una valley. Successfully «EKUS» respectively «Ekološka koalicija Unskog sliva» struggled against the giant hydro-power dam over there. Approximately one kilometer away from the famous Unac-Falls of Martin Brod the unique treasure of the scenic Unac valley with its wild canyons was at risk to be buried under a reservoir forty meters deep and stretching for kilometres.
Another reason to celebrate this great success with a visit of Una National Park in the northwest of Bosnia soon.
