International Rivers

For ages humans rely on rivers as their life veins. They served as ways of transportation, provided food and water. Nowadays everywhere in the world the last „Mohicans“ of these free-flowing, untamed witnesses of bygone days are threatened. The worldwide demand for raw materials such as water and energy reaches the remotest areas considering rivers just as an industrial resource.
Since the days of John Muir, who as early as a hundred years ago was campaigning for a sustainable use of wilderness as a resource, these days the last untouched river valleys are severely threatened by dams.
The battle to save the Grand Canyon or the Tara River Gorge from being flooded shows one thing: No river is safe any longer!
